Name keychain, a custom name keychain 3D printed in several colours Render

Start from a design

Each one opens in the designer with your own text and pictures ready to change. The image is a 3D render of that design exactly as it prints.

What you can put on it

A name keychain can be as simple as one word in two colours or as busy as a family name with an outline, a border and a heart. You choose:

  • The words. A first name, a nickname, initials, a team or a short phrase. Short words print bolder: five to eight letters is the sweet spot for a keychain you'll carry every day.
  • The font. 125 fonts, from bold block letters to flowing scripts, every one checked for how thin its strokes get. The designer warns you if a script is too delicate at your size and tells you how tall to make it.
  • The shape. Cut around the letters themselves (the classic name keychain), or put the name on a coin, a hexagon, a dog-tag or a rounded rectangle. See all of them on our shapes and sizes page.
  • The colours. Up to 8 solid colours from the spools we actually have in stock, shown by name on the colours page. Two or three colours look sharpest at keychain size.
  • A hanging hole. The designer adds it beside the name so it never cuts through a letter, with a solid tab around it so the keychain doesn't snap at the ring.

How it looks in your hand

Most name keychains we make are raised: the letters stand about a millimetre proud of an outline in a second colour, so you can feel the name with your thumb. If you prefer something smooth and coin-like, choose flush, where each colour is inlaid level with the surface. A third style, stepped, stacks each colour one step higher than the last, which is the quickest to print when a design uses many colours.

The live preview isn't a mock-up. It is drawn by the same software that makes the print file, so the colour regions, the outline width and the hole are exactly where they'll be on the finished keychain. Lines too fine to print are merged before you see them, so nothing surprises you in the mail.

Good to know before you order

A name keychain is light (usually 4 to 10 grams) and about 2.5 mm thick, so it sits flat on a key ring without bulk. The plastic is stiff and holds bright colour well, but it isn't rubber: a keychain that's bent hard will snap rather than flex, so we make the tab around the hole extra wide. It can also soften in high heat, like a dashboard in full summer sun, so keep it in a pocket or bag rather than on the dash. Our guide on 3D printed vs acrylic vs metal keychains compares the options honestly.

Ordering several names at once? Each one is its own design, but they share a mailer, so shipping costs the same for one keychain or a handful. That makes name keychains a good fit for party favours and stocking stuffers.

How we make it

Your name keychain is printed to order in solid, durable plastic, in fine layers with every colour running right through. Before it prints, we open your design and its preview and check that every detail will come out: that's the Maker Check. Then it's packed in a padded mailer and handed to Canada Post.

Shipping and timing

We print within a few business days of checking your order. Shipping is a flat CA$19.95 anywhere in Canada, tracked, and several prints share one mailer. Canada Post delivers in about 2 to 9 business days. Details on our shipping page.

Name keychains: questions

How long can the name be?

Up to about 14 characters fits a keychain comfortably. Longer names work too, but the letters get smaller as the keychain stays a pocketable size, so very long names suit a coin or a rounded rectangle better than a cut-out name.

Can I use two colours for the letters and the outline?

Yes. The classic look is one colour for the letters and a second for the outline that joins them together. You can add up to 8 colours in total, for example a third colour for a heart or a border.

Will a script font print properly?

Most do. Every font has a minimum size we measured, and the designer warns you if your text is below it. Delicate scripts look best at 12 mm tall or more; bold fonts can go smaller.

Do you check my keychain before printing?

Yes, every order. If something won't print well, we tell you and you can tweak your design for free, or get a full refund before anything is printed.

How do I attach it to my keys?

The hole fits a standard split ring or a lobster clasp. It sits in a solid tab so the keychain hangs straight and doesn't snap at the hole.

Can I order the same keychain with different names?

Yes. Add one to your cart, then use "Make another with a different name" to copy the design and change only the text. They ship together in one mailer.
